SA Guild of Actors

A Powerful, Unified Voice for Actors' Rights

Membership

What will I get out of joining SAGA?

As actors, we are all aware of the dangers and limitations of acting as a profession. South African actors have never had meaningful representation to fight injustices that threaten their livelihood. History and sometimes bitter experience have taught us that a lone voice is not going to suddenly infuse the entertainment industry with justice, fairness and integrity.

SAGA Patronage requires an ongoing donation to be made to SAGA on either a recurring monthly or a recurring annual basis.

Donations totalling a minimum amount of R 1000 annually will enable the SAGA Patron to receive a Section 18(a) receipt, making the donation fully tax deductible. Donations must be made by electronic deposit or direct deposit, and proof of payment must be sent to admin@saguildofactors.co.za.

The allowable deduction may not exceed 10% of the taxable income (excluding any retirement fund lump sum benefit, retirement fund lump sum withdrawal benefit and severance benefit) of the taxpayer as calculated before allowing any deduction for donations under section 18A or a deduction for foreign taxes under section 6quat(1C).

Any excess amount of a donation made that is disallowed solely for the reason that it exceeds the amount of the deduction allowable for a year of assessment may be carried forward for purposes of section 18A. The excess amount carried forward will be deemed a donation actually paid or transferred in the next succeeding year of assessment subject to the 10% limitation. If any excess remains, it can be further rolled over but always subject to the 10% limitation.
